HP photo printers are developed to enable the printing of top quality photographs from a digital file.
Initially, photo printers including HP photo printers required that you first upload the file to your computer
before you print. The latest models have gone a step further by eliminating the need for the computer as a go
between and allowing you to print your photographs directly from the digital camera, from a USB disk or from an
inserted micro, mini or standard SD card.
Once you buy it, how do you go about setting up a HP photo printer and especially the Photosmart series? After
plugging it into the power supply, press the On button and wait for 30 seconds for the device to start up. Open the
print cartridge door, making sure that the cartridge carriage moves to the right. If it does not, turn the device
off, then turn it back on again. The next thing is to insert the cartridge itself onto the carriage. Do it
carefully but firmly so that it snaps into position. Do not forget to remove the tape that covers the cartridge
contacts as leaving the tape will make your printer generate blank printouts every time you print. After the
cartridge is in position, close the cartridge door.
Turn on your computer and when the operating system's desktop appears, insert the CD that came with the printer
and follow the onscreen instructions. Once the USB prompt appears onscreen, connect the USB cable to the port at
the back of the Hp photo printer and then to any USB port on the computer. Finally, follow the onscreen
instructions to complete the software installation. Once installed, you use HP photo printers to edit a picture,
alter its size and print pictures. Part of HP photo printer's CD starter pack is HP Image Edit and is the one that
allows you to perform basic edits on your photographs through your computer.
The actual printing of the photos depends on the model of the printer. By default, all will allow you to print
directly from your computer. Some HP photo printers have docking slots where you can place your digital camera and
print the photos required. Still others have slots for inserting digital camera SD cards where you can select the
photos you need and send them to print.
For the HP photo printers that allow you to preview your photographs directly from the digital camera or SD
card, there will be a ‘preview photo' option on your printer menu. The photo will then be displayed on a built-in
1.5"-2" display although the HP Photosmart A626 model has a larger 4.8" screen which makes it easier to view. For
quick perusal, you can also view the set of photos on printer screen as a slide show.
Thanks to the convergence of digital device functions, recent models of HP photo printers are not just printers
but also incorporate scanner, photocopier and fax functionality. The printer effectively becomes a one stop
shop.
