Log Homes For Sale

When you are looking for log homes for sale, there are many things to consider. The price is what most people think about first. In addition, consider the quality of materials used to get your money's worth. You may also be concerned about how quickly you can get your new home. The reputation of the company that builds it and the guarantees they offer should also be examined. You will likely want to consider many different companies and see what they offer before choosing one. This is not usually something you can buy used, unless you are also buying the land on which it is sitting, or you have some way to move it. However, moving a completed log cabin successfully will likely cost almost as much as having one built on the site.

When you picture a home of logs, you may picture some small building that looks like a larger version of what you could build with Lincoln Logs as a kid. There are log homes for sale today that are like that, but there are also ones that are very large and modern, yet still retain an old-fashioned country look. They may have two stories, a balcony, a fireplace, large fancy windows, and plenty of square feet. This is nothing like what you would find in the old West, but it still has a charming and friendly look.  Of course, they also have modern plumbing. You can find companies that know how to build homes that combine rustic with up-to-date homes.

From the beginning, getting good insulation without suffocating the occupants has been an issue. Today we often have central air and heat that we want to keep in our homes, as much as is safely possible. The insulation value on new log homes for sale can vary. If these are just made of logs then the thicker the log, the more insulation you have. There are manufactures that can add fiberglass or other types of insulations to improve your R value. However, that may mean that on the inside you do not see the natural logs, but rather the wall that is over the insulation. A properly made and sealed one will likely be at least almost as good as a standard house. Wood is fairly solid and able to hold in heat and cold.

Before you start seriously shopping for log homes for sale, you need to decide if you have the right property and the right location on your property. You may know a beautiful spot on top of a short hill that will let you take in a breath of fresh air and look down at a lake. However, that top of a hill part could be a problem, for most builders. They have to be able to get a lot of heavy trucks, supplies, and machinery, to the location.  Furthermore, they need room at the top for all their vehicles, equipment, and materials. You might find a company willing to do it, but be prepared to pay a lot more. In addition, there needs to be a way for these multi-ton vehicles to get to your property. That means a strong and wide enough road. If your culvert breaks, you will not only have to get a new one, but also you will likely have to pay for no telling how many hours for using the truck that is stuck.
